Zone 7 0 - 10 degrees F (-18 to -12 degrees C)
Zone 7 is found mainly across the middle latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere temperate regions, with only odd patches in the Southern Hemisphere, in mountain areas. In North America, the zone runs in an arc across the southern states of USA, from the Virginia through northern Texas, Arizona, and the mountains of California, coming to a northern-most tail in the maritime region of western Canada and the Alaskan Panhandle. In Europe it occupies a north-south belt through central Europe, from Denmark to the Balkans, and also occurs in the Scottish Highlands. From the eastern Mediterranean, it runs in a broad belt through parts of the Caucasus and Turkey and through much of the Himalayas and northern China. Northern Japan is also in this zone. In the Southern Hemisphere, the largest occurrences of Zone 7 are in the higher Andes of South America—dropping almost to sea level in the far south—in the Drakensberg of eatern South Africa, and in the higher mountains of New Zealand’s South Island.
